Back to where They Belong

I´ve lived long enough to see
Daisies blooming in the meadow
Year after year
Heard the birds of spring
Visit the cold North
Early in April
They fill the air with music
I thought I´d never hear again.
I´ve seen them flocking in the fall
Waiting for a favourable wind
To bring them back South.

I´ve lived long enough to see
Snow cover the fields
Month after month
Heard the roaring ocean waves
Lash the sandy shore
In the dark winternight
The boats tied to the pier
And fishermen sleeping
In safety at home
Waiting for a favourable wind
To bring them back to icy waters.

I´ve lived long enough to see
Eyes shooting a shy glance
Now and then
At a face in the crowd
Tourists bringing the atmosphere
Of summer
They buy clothes and souvenirs
And come again this year
As before and before
Waiting for the autumn breeze
To bring them back to where they belong.
